Listed in Turkmenistan UNESCO World Heritage Sites as an architectural reserve, Kunya-Urgench is located in the north-west of Turkmenistan, on the left of Amu Darya River. In 1st century AD, Kunya Urgench was the ancient capital of Northern Khorezm, a part of the Achaemenid Empire and it was captured by Arabs in the middle of 8th century. In 995, Kunya Urgench was renamed as Gurgandzh and became the residence of Khorezm Shah. At the same time, it became the second-largest city after Bukhara which was the capital of Samanid Empire. The ancient trade route passes through Kunya-Urgench city and mostly used by Caravanserais.

The inner part of the gate is decorated by the glazed majolica tiles in a geometric array with a perfect design. Due to the small fragments, and no paintings on it, these mosaic tiles dating back to the late 14th century according to the archaeologists.
