These time period was the time of Iustin Benaventura Pranaytis, the curator of the Turkestan region. After him, his heir was unable to finish the construction work of Holy Assumption Cathedral Church. Because of unstable political situation ands lack of funds, father Boleslaw Rutenis, the heir of Pranaytis left the post of Senior Priest. After him, the church services were done secretly by father Joseph Sowinski. For the anti-soviet propaganda,he was arrested and shot in 1937.
As the church was nationalized in 1925, it became the home of the different organizations like hostels of the Electrical Cable Plant and Republican Obstetric School, administration and storehouse of Medtekhnika in Soviet era.
During 1976, The Holy Dormition Cathedral building was restored and came under the Ministry of Culture of the Uzbekistan-SSR. It received the status of as a historical site and became one of the Tashkent Sights in Uzbekistan in 1981.
