Samarkand Regional Museum In Samarkand is located in the old traditional Jewish quarter of the city and east of the Registan square. This museum is near to Chokardiz cemetery and Imam al Maturidi Memorial Complex.

History Of Samarkand Regional Museum :

Samarkand Regional Museum was the private residence Abram Kalantarov, a Samarkand merchant and known as one of the recognized leaders of the Bukhara Jewish community in Samarkand. Dating from 20th century, it was architectured by E.O. Nelle, a well-known architect of A. Kalantarov. So, the interior decoration is the mix of European and Central Asian styles. This museum was beautified and added some new elements in design during 1914, when Tsar Nicholas II visited Samarkand. In 1981, this museum turned into Samarkand Regional Museum of Local Lore or public with its rich historical exhibition.

Samarkand Regional Museum Design and Architecture :

The interior of Samarkand Regional Museum is decorated by eclectic synthesis of European and Oriental (of Central Asia) decorative styles and amenities. The walls of the sitting rooms of Samarkand Regional Museum are decorated by elegant ganch carving. The carved wooden ceiling of the museum is decorated with colourful painted ornaments and ganch claustras on its stained-glass windows.
