History Of Sadriddin Ayni House Museum

Located in the heart of Samarkand and very close to Registan Square, Sadriddin Ayni House Museum is the home of the famous Tajikistan writer Sadriddin Ayni (1878-1954). He also was an organizer of the first “new method” schools in Bukhara, educator and also an outstanding poet. His great was the foundation of Uzbek and Tajik literature.

His first work was writing the long and short stories in between 1923 and 1937. The titles of some of his stories are Odina, The Slave-Grandfather, The Old School, The Pawnbroker's Death, etc. Some of the most famous novels written by him are Dokunda, Slaves and others.

His new study works are Yatim, The Hero of Tajik People Temurmalik, The Mukanna Uprising, his memoirs and other works. By the suppression of Bukhara Emir, he left Bukhara and lived in this house with a period of more than 35 years until his death. In 1967, the house turned into one of the Samarkand Museums by the initiative taken by Uzbek Government.

As one of the Samarkand Highlights, the exhibitions of furniture in between 15th and 17th century, photos, documents and the traditional Tajik and Uzbek way of life can be seen in Sadriddin Ayni House Museum.
