Masoleum Of Imam Al-Moturidi was built on the grave of the great Islam science Imam Al-Moturidi. He was from a place called “Maturid” and also known as “Imam of Guidance”. The cemetery Chokardiza is also the buried place of many famous scientists of Islam.
Mausoleum of Imam Al-Moturidi in Samarkand is the burial place of Imam Al- Maturidi. Imam al-Moturidi was one of the earlier who makes the philosophical foundations of the Muslim religion and faith stronger. He is a famous Islamic theologian, Muslim jurisprudence and the founder of the Islamic science of the rationalist interpretation, known as calom.
He died in 944 and buried at the famous Chokaradiz cemetery of Samarkand. Chokardiza was built in the 9th century. The cemetery got its name as “Chokardiza” whereas, “Chokar” means “army” “Disa” means a fortress. As there was a military fortress, the cemetery was named as accordingly.
In 1130-year anniversary of Imam al-Moturidi in 2000, the Mausoleum Of Imam Al-Moturidi was restored and the entire territory was landscaped.
Mausoleum Of Imam Al-Moturidi is located one kilometer from the southest of Registan square and Khodja Akhrar ensemble in Samarkand of Uzbekistan.
The reason of being one of the most sacred Samarkand Sights is the scientist's mausoleum. Covering an area of 4 hectares, the architectural complex was built surrounding the scientist's mausoleum in the centre. There are also the graves of scholars, theologians, and a park of green spaces in the territory of the complex.
The height of Mausoleum Of Imam Al-Moturidi is 12 meters with a dome 15 meters. The exterior is decorated with blue majolica and the building is crowned with a double dome whereas; the drum is decorated with 24 arches. On the western side of mausoleum, there is a building with a dome and on the north side an elevation or sufa is located with tombstones of the 9th-18th centuries.
The major attraction is the cemetery in which the famous Islam scientist was buried. Scientist’s words are carved on a white marble gravestone. The floral pattern along with the geometrical shape on the exterior boasts the designs of Islam.
