Fergana Regional Museum is considered as one of the oldest museums in Uzbekistan. There are fine collection of items, relating to all periods of history, culture and art of Fergana Region. With a collection of more than 80,000, the archaeological collection of this museum has the richest collections in Ferghana Valley. The regional museum has 7 branches: The U. Jusupov memorial museum is in v. Kaptarxona, Ferghana region, the museum of X. X. Niyazi in the settlement of Hamzaabad, the J. Ahunbabaev memorial museum in Margelan, the museum of Uzbekistan history in the city of Jajpan, the Museum of Literature and Art in Margelan, the Museum Khaziniy in Uchkuprik, the Museum of Altiariq History.
From 16th October to 7th November, 1894 the first regional agricultural and industrial exhibition was held in Fergana Region. The exhibition has the Items from these collections and some other collections donated by various people form the basis of the creation of the museum. On 2nd November, 1895, the committee for the management and the development of the museum is founded by the order of the Ferghana region governor.
The opening of Ferghana Regional Public Museum or Fergana Museum was held on 26th May 1899, the day of the 100th anniversary of the birthday of Alexander Pushkin. The contributions were from O.A. Fedchenko, Imperial Russian Geographical Society, the Imperial Moscow Society of Naturalists, Russian Archeological Society, Odessa Society of History and Antiquities, the Nerchinsk Public Museum and others.
Though Fergana Museum was closed in 1911 for the private donation, it revived after the establishment of Soviet authority in Ferghana.
Fergana Museum is located on Usmankhodjaev Street in Ferghana city of Ferghana province in Uzbekistan.
Fergana Museum has more than 10000 archaeological units.
