As an ancient settlement of Eneolithic Age and Bronge Age from 3,000 B.C. to 2,000 B.C, Altyn-Depe along with Abu Said Meikhene Mausoleum is the perfect place for Turkmenistan Tours. Forming the original inscriptions or patterns, the hill walls are scattered in a vast territory with different area and heights.
In 3000 BC, the ancient settlement of Altyn-Depe, Namazga-Depe, Ulug-Depe and others near Ashgabat Vicinity emerged. In the beginning of 2,000 B.C. they became the most prosperous and flourished as the largest centres as the first Central Asian civilization. Surrounded by mud brick fortifications these settlements with the gates were reinforced by powerful towers. The mud bricks were used for construction of multi-room houses which were formed as extended houses while divided by narrow winding streets. In the centre of Altyn-Depe, there was a monumental temple having a four-level tower with a height of 12 metre. On the top of the tower there was a sacrificial altar. The temple in Altyn-Depe was known for worshipping the god of the Moon. On Turkmenistan Tours, you can witness the evidence of the existence of numerous storehouses, the house of Supreme priest and a tomb of a priestly community.
Altyn-Depe is located near to the Miana village and can be reached by Dushak, from the south-east of Dushak. After 7 kilometres, you will reach Miana village.
The large scale excavation at Altyn-Depe was started in 1965. Altyn-Depe with other ancient settlement as the home of neollithic and Bronge age comes under the Ashgabat Top Places To Visit. You can see the ruins of the great craftsmanship quarters in Altyn-Depe sprawled in a vast area. The fallen off arches of massive pottery forges can be seen.
A major discovery here was that of a monumental cult complex called Ziggurat with the four-level watch tower around a stepped ziggurat structure, topped with a small shrine. As one of the Ashgabat Sights, the items found in Altyn-Depe give the evidence of close link with the Mesopotamia culture. The gold head of a wolf, and a larger golden head of a bull, more than 7cm in height along with the turquoise crescent inlaid on its forehead were found by the archaeologists.
In the tombs, the archaeologists have found the jewelleries from gold and silver, necklaces from semiprecious stones, silver and bronze rings and signets.
